Explore the heart of the Khmer ancestral empire

Phnom Krom: Opening at 06:00 am and closing at 07:00 pm. After the closing hours, tourists who are present at any of the temples are given an extra 30 minutes before they have to leave.

Phnom Krom is a hill with 140 meters high and about 12 kilometers from Siem Reap city on the banks of the Tonle Sap Lake. The temple was built by king Yasovarman I (889) 910) on a natural mountain, in the late 9th and early 10th centuries, to dedicate it to the three deities of Brahmanism Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The temple is in rectangular shape with three sandstone towers lined up on a single platform from north to south. The three central towers have open gates on the east and west sides. The south and the north gates are false doors. The central tower is dedicated to Shiva, the north is dedicated to Vishnu and the south is dedicated to Brahma. The tops of these towers collapsed and the outer walls suffered severe erosion. The temple has a laterite wall that is 50m x 50m long and has gate in all four directions in the shape of a crow’s foot. There are three long buildings built of laterite, two in the south and one in the north, damaged leaving only platform. The temple has four libraries or stupas on the east side and two libraries built of brick on each side, while the inner library was made of sandstone.
