The south gate of Ta Prohm Temple has been restored to approximately 45 percent, thanks to ongoing cooperation between the APSARA National Authority and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The restoration work began in early 2023 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
According to Chitranjan Kumar, Head of the Ta Prohm Temple Restoration Site, the restoration of the south gate has been conducted in phases, using techniques recommended by the ICC-Angkor/Sambor Prei Kuk experts. By mid-2024, the team had focused on restoring and reinforcing the foundation, platform, and walls up to the roof eaves, reaching about 45 percent completion. In areas where stones were missing or too damaged to reuse, new stones have been added to strengthen the gate’s structure.
Mr. Kumar stated that his team remains committed to completing the south gate restoration by the end of 2026. The final phase, which includes the upper structure featuring the four-faced image of Brahma, is expected to take approximately another year to complete.
