Angkor is not only world-renowned for its rich culture and history, earning its place as a global heritage site, but it is also deeply revered by the Khmer people as a sacred dwelling of the gods.
Every day, many Cambodians—from Siem Reap and beyond, as well as international visitors—come to Angkor to offer candles, incense, flowers, and fruits. These offerings accompany rituals and prayers seeking blessings, happiness, and protection. In particular, prayers are often dedicated to the Cambodian frontline soldiers, asking the gods of Angkor to guide them to victory in defending the nation’s territory against Thai military aggression.
The faithful pray for divine protection from danger, and for the Cambodian nation to be free from war and disease, embracing peace, happiness, and lasting prosperity.
