After spending many months, the APSARA National Authority has recently completed the restoration of Ta Prohm Kel Temple for the benefit of future generations.
Mr. Mao Sokny, Head of Ta Prohm Kel Restoration Site and Architect of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology said that the process of restoring Ta Prohm Kel Temple was divided into two phases, the first stage, we conducted research that studied the layout, and excavation. In the second phase, which started from March to December 2023, we completed the restoration work to make the temple structure stronger, which used to be tilted and often supported.
Mr. Mao Sokny confirmed that the temple was badly damaged as some stones fell to the ground and the central tower collapsed on one side in the south and west corners. Therefore, the restoration work was to strengthen the structure of the broken corners by replacing some new stones.
He added that so far, the team was organizing a walkway for visitors, cleaning the drainage system to flow into the pond on the north side, and reorganizing the temple grounds to make it easier for visitors to visit the temple.
It should be noted that Ta Prohm Kel Temple serves as a praying tower in the hospital. It was one of the four hospitals around Angkor Thom. It was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. This temple is located on the northwest side of Angkor Wat.
