Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 from the Angkor site participated in an environmental education program held from 25 to 27 November 2025. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the APSARA National Authority, Japan Quality Assurance (JQA), the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and Sophia University.
The program provided students with knowledge on waste management, including the definition and sources of garbage, methods to reduce waste consumption, and practical solutions to environmental challenges. Educators emphasized that environmental education for children is essential, as it forms the foundation for lifelong awareness and understanding. By recognizing environmental issues early, students are better equipped to comprehend the impacts and contribute to positive change.
Key topics introduced to the children included understanding what waste is and identifying their daily habits that affect the environment.
Three primary schools—Kok Kreul Primary School, Daun Aw Primary School, and Trapeang Svay Primary School—were selected as model institutions for this phase of the project. Students from all three grade levels took part in a variety of environmental lessons and will continue to apply their learning through hands-on activities with guidance from their teachers.
