APSARA National Authority is repairing the window pillars at the second gallery of Angkor Wat

Experts from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority are repairing the sandstone window pillars at the southwest corner of the second gallery of Angkor Wat temple, which was severely damaged and fell to avoid danger.

Soy Sophearith, an archaeologist and conservation agent at Angkor Wat, said that due to the ages of the building and its exposure to the sun, moisture, rain, water seepage, and moss, windows and other structures at the second gallery of Angkor Wat temple was badly damaged.

He added that experts need a month and a half to repair before returning those window pillars to their original location.
Although the window pillars can be returned to their original position, the team is ready to place wooden bars to protect all the window pillars. Another important factor is that the wooden bars can help prevent tourists from passing through the window too.

Mr. Soy Sophearith said that the repair of the sandstone window pillars in the second gallery of Angkor Wat temple was carried out by a team of experts from the APSARA National Authority who had properly trained. Repair techniques also include cleaning, salt removal, gluing, and reinforcement.
