The Phnom Krom Temple Conservation and Restoration Team of the APSARA National Authority has successfully completed the restoration of the southeast brick temple, marking another significant effort in safeguarding Cambodia’s cultural heritage for future generations.
According to Mr. Moeun Chantrea, a technical staff member of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, the restoration work began in May and was finalized in mid-November 2025. He noted that the structure had suffered extensive deterioration, particularly in the roof section, which had developed cracks and tears that allowed rainwater to seep in. In addition, the temple’s platform had become severely degraded, requiring urgent intervention.
The restoration process included clearing soil, grass, and vegetation, recovering original bricks that had fallen or scattered around the site, and reinforcing the platform, roof, and temple body to ensure structural stability and longevity.
Mr. Moeun Chantrea expressed his pride in contributing to the revival of this ancient monument, emphasizing the importance of preserving such heritage sites. He added that Phnom Krom, with its ancient temples, scenic mountains, lush rice fields, views of the Tonle Sap Lake, and surrounding villages, is expected to attract increasing numbers of visitors.
