Continuous rainfall has caused short-term flooding in some temples that lack proper drainage systems or have narrow drainage channels. To address this issue promptly, tourism agents at various temple sites have actively contributed to clearing water and ensuring the safety of visitors, helping to prevent accidents and potential risks.
Mr. Sun Keophakdey, Head of the Ta Prohm Tourism Agents, explained that during heavy rains, certain areas within the Ta Prohm temple complex—particularly the flat southern section near the dance hall—often become waterlogged. He said that he frequently leads his team to dig temporary water channels and remove debris or small plants along the drainage edges to help water flow more quickly, making it easier for tourists to visit safely.
He added that, beyond Ta Prohm’s perimeter, some other temples also experience temporary flooding. In these cases, tourism agents use various tools and materials to scoop or divert water away from the main tourist pathways.
Mr. Keophakdey also reminded all visitors to Ta Prohm and other temples to be cautious—avoiding wet areas, walking carefully to prevent slips, and respecting “No Entry” signs, which indicate restricted or potentially dangerous zones.
It should be noted that, in addition to Ta Prohm, tourism agents across the Angkor complex have remained attentive to visitor safety and continue their efforts to preserve the beauty and dignity of these World Heritage temples.
