The APSARA National Authority and the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), in collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Siem Reap Province, concluded the 2026 Environmental Education for Kids program and honored outstanding students from three primary schools within the Angkor area: Daun Ov Primary School, Kok Kreul Primary School, and Trapeang Svay Primary School.
Over the past six months, from November 28, 2025, to May 28, 2026, students actively participated in learning activities, practical life-skills programs, and environmental initiatives. They demonstrated strong commitment to environmental protection and community responsibility throughout the program.
The closing ceremony was held on the morning of May 28, 2026, at Daun Ov Primary School. The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Sok Leakhena, representing H.E. Dr. Hang Peou, Director General of the APSARA National Authority; Ms. Morishima, representative of JQA; Mr. Naing Sokkhoeun, Acting Director of the Primary Education Office of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports; teachers; and approximately 400 students.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Sok Leakhena stated that the Environmental Education for Kids program has been implemented annually in the three primary schools for at least six months, from November to May. He emphasized that the program plays an important role in educating hundreds of children each year about environmental impacts and encouraging them to reduce plastic use, avoid littering in public spaces, and recycle plastic waste for reuse.
Ms. Morishima expressed JQA’s pleasure in contributing to environmental education for children in schools located within the Angkor area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. She added that JQA will continue working closely with the APSARA National Authority and related institutions to promote environmental education activities in the three schools. The program aims to nurture children with basic life skills, environmental awareness, and a strong sense of responsibility to love, care for, and protect both cultural heritage and natural resources, contributing to a healthy and harmonious society where culture and a clean environment coexist.
