The APSARA National Authority has successfully completed the restoration of the southern tower of Songkae Soeng Temple, a significant historical site located in Trapeang Ktes village, Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province. After months of dedicated work, the temple, which had suffered extensive structural damage—including rotting and cracking of the lower part, front gate, and walls—has been revitalized.
Restoration efforts commenced in early 2025, focusing on reinforcing the temple’s foundations, repairing decayed walls, and restoring the roofs of the first and second towers. The team also addressed cracks and removed vegetation that had taken root in the structure.
Songkae Soeng Temple features four towers, three of which are constructed from brick adorned with intricate carvings, while the fourth tower is made from sandstone, laterite, and brick. The central tower is connected by an elaborately designed sandstone wall. This temple, built in the mid-10th to early 11th centuries AD, is dedicated to Hinduism and showcases remarkable architectural craftsmanship.
The restoration project was overseen by Mr. Puth Soth, who highlighted the team’s commitment to preserving the temple’s historical integrity while ensuring its structural safety for future generations.
