Neak Tavaing Temple or the locals call Prasat Kork Tavaing is a small temple located in Thmey Village, Sangkat Svay Dangkum, Siem Reap City. The temple is almost destroyed due to many factors such as nature, age, and human factors. For the preservation of ancient structures, the APSARA National Authority collects stones that fall around to find the stones and then clean and reassemble the temple.
Mr. Ros Visoth, Conservation Officer of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of APSARA National Authority, said that with the permission of the head of APSARA National Authority, his working team visited the site of Neak Tavaing Temple, checked some work to preserve the damaged temple. The temple was at risk because the people living nearby poured soil and built new buildings nearby.
He said that in addition to clearing the area around the temple, the team is registering the stones to know what part of the temple those stones come from. But the first step is to register the stones that have carvings. He added that after the registration of the stones, the testing of the repair or re-assembly of the stone was started according to each group of stones, and then we will ask for the project study to repair and reassemble the Neak Tavaing Temple.
According to documents from the EFEO, in 1972, the French had already excavated the site, and at the top of the temple, there was a tiled structure to worship.
APSARA National Authority urges the local authorities and all the people living near the temple to take care of, protect, and preserve, whether the temple is small or large, to understand and value all the ancient structures to continue to maintain the legacy of Khmer ancestors has been left behind.
