As of mid-October, the project to restore the east gate of Ta Prohm is 35 percent completed, and the team is currently restoring and installing stones in the north, south, and the roof, and about 50 percent of the roof is restored.
Ms. Net Simon, Archaeologist of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, said that the work to restore the east gate of Ta Prohm has developed a lot, despite some obstacles due to rain. Currently, 35% of the restoration work has been completed, which is scheduled to be completed by 2023.
Recall that in the past, the condition of the east gate was so dilapidated that the structure of the gate was tilted and there was a high risk to tourists. So, the APSARA National Authority, in cooperation with Indian institutions and with the approval of the ICC-Angkor, began to restore the gate in early 2022.
As for the restoration process, Ms. Net Simon explained that all the stones had to be moved to repair, strengthen the foundation and re-arrange the stones. A small number of stones are fragile and some are missing, requiring only a small amount of new stones.
