Due to natural factors, and age, some parts of the temple structure are threatened with damage. To prevent those risks and further damage, APSARA National Authority urgently works to temporarily preserve these ancient structures promptly.

In this work, the working team of the Department of Water, Forestry, and Infrastructure Management of the APSARA National Authority studied the risk map to determine the location where immediate intervention is needed to prevent any possible problems. In an emergency support work at the first gallery, the southern part of Angkor Wat, 100 meters long,5 meters wide, and 7 meters high, was the first location on the risk map to ensure that some structures were not damaged. The team will then proceed to work in the direction set out in the risk map.

Mr. Sok Soseila, Deputy Director of the Department of Water, Forestry, and Infrastructure Management, said that in the last 2-3 weeks, we got lots of rain and water has flooded all parts of the first gallery causing some parts of the gallery to slightly move and the beams to begin to separate.

Due to this problem, the working team also took some wood and scaffolding to work urgently to provide temporary support before reaching a recommendation from the ICC Angkor on what to do next.

This is the first emergency project that the team has implemented. In the future, the team plans to strengthen the beams, columns, and roofs of the gallery of 38 more locations in Angkor Wat.
