The restoration efforts led by the APSARA National Authority to restore and strengthen the southern central stairs and Naga balustrade on the ground floor of Angkor Wat are truly commendable. The meticulous work being done to repair and rebalance the Naga balustrade, ensuring it is returned to its original position, showcases a dedication to preserving the historical integrity of this iconic site.

Mr. Soy Sophearin, Head of the Angkor Wat restoration site, said that after completing the restoration of the foundation, the team continued to repair the Naga balustrade that slipped out of the original position by cleaning the dirt and preparing the stone to rebalance the balustrade.

Mr. Sophearin added that the Naga balustrade was 16 meters long. The extensive repairs, reinforcement, and addition of some new stones to the Naga balustrade are essential steps in ensuring that this significant structure remains intact for generations to come. The focus on long-term durability speaks to the importance of safeguarding Angkor Wat’s cultural heritage for hundreds of years.
