The MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum is currently showcasing an exchange of 35 unique textile collections, including shirts, skirts, and scarves, aimed at enriching public knowledge and appreciation of traditional textiles.
Sen Kimsun, the acting deputy director of the museum, shared that these items, which range in age from 15 to 35 years, were donated by various contributors from Takeo, Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap provinces prior to and during 2024. Among the notable pieces is a Hol Anluanh fabric, characterized by its exquisite floral patterns, traditionally worn by affluent families as a symbol of social status. This particular fabric was generously donated by the abbot and committee of Ang Anthet Pagoda in Prei Kabbas District, Takeo Province, and received by the museum in April. Mr. Kimsun expressed gratitude on behalf of the museum for the valuable contributions that will help preserve and showcase these textiles for both national and international visitors.
The exhibition features not only the Hol Anluanh fabric but also various clothing sets designed for the elderly, individuals of high social standing, and members of the royal family. Additionally, there are scarves and shawls adorned with diverse patterns and designs.
Mr. Kimsun encourages both the public and weavers interested in studying these traditional patterns to visit the MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum. The museum is located in Boeung Daun Pa Village along Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An Road (60 Meter Road) in Sangkat Sla Kram, Siem Reap City. It is open to visitors daily except Tuesdays, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
