The APSARA National Authority’s water management team is currently focused on repairing and renovating the main water gates at the Angkor site in preparation for the upcoming rainy season. Mr. Nhem Raksmey, a Technical Officer of the Department of Water, Forestry, and Infrastructure Management, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the water gates function properly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The team conducts regular inspections of the water gates, paying special attention to the sluice mechanics to prevent any potential issues during times of high water levels. Additionally, damaged water gates are promptly repaired to maintain their effectiveness.
With over 200 main water gates in the Angkor area, these structures play a crucial role in managing water flow to prevent flooding in the temple area and Siem Reap city during the rainy season while also facilitating the addition of water to the main reservoirs or barays in the region.
