So Pot, an archaeologist and architect of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology said that due to age factors, parts of the brick structure of the north gate at the second level of the Eastern Mebon temple are going to fall and collapse. Seeing this situation, the APSARA National Authority supported the remaining brick walls on both sides to stabilize the entire body of the gate, which was in a state of collapse, and closed the gap between the cracks to prevent water from further leaking.
Mr. So Pot said that the factor that causes the gate to be severely damaged was due to rainwater infiltration. Moisture also causes the walls to rot, and the plants that grow on top of the gate cause many small and large cracks, and some roots to penetrate the walls, causing the cracks to grow.
While the north gate of the Eastern Mebon temple is at risk of the tower, the technical team of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority has identified the risk and strengthened the foundation and used cable clamps to make internal scaffolding to help stabilize. So far, the rescue and strengthening of the north gate of the eastern Mebon temple has reached 50%.
It should be noted that the restoration project of the north gate of the Eastern Mebon temple has also received the recommendation of the ICC-Angkor.
