Despite working as environmental cleaners at ancient temples for many years, many of these workers never complained of fatigue but were happy to have served and maintained the temple and helped to enhance the beauty of the environment of the temple to attract more tourists.
Many women who work as temple cleaners consider the ancient temples to be like their homes that need regular maintenance.
The team leader of the Ta Prohm clean-up team, Ho Sary, who lives in Sras Srang village, said her team consisted of 20 people, and every day she divided the work among them. The team leader also said that their daily work is to clean the inside and outside of the temple by cutting grass and sweeping the stone and wood floors. Ms. Ho Sary stated that this work is not easy and not too difficult, depending on the season: in the dry season, there are lots of leaves, and rainy season, we cut the vegetation, and sweep the leaves, as well as being flexible according to the actual situation.
Ms. Mao Hoeun lives in North Sras Srong village, working as a cleaner at Ta Prohm temple for about 10 years, said that she regularly arrives at work at 7 am and leaves work at 5 pm. The same woman expressed the feeling that the cleaning work at Ta Prohm for the past 10 years, she never felt tired. On the contrary, she is happy and satisfied to work with love and excitement because she has made the ancient temple beautiful and proud of herself, which makes the temple beautiful, which leads the visitors to be amazed.
The team to clean the environment in Ta Prohm temple also requests national and international tourists to help maintain a good environment inside and outside the temple as well as the entire Angkor site.
