Although people’s awareness of litter is now better, there are still small numbers of unsatisfactory cases that require the necessary involvement in waste management as well as environmental issues in the Angkor site.
Ms. Ko Chot, an environmental cleaning agent in front of Angkor Wat, said that the most common waste today is the leaves, which require daily cleaning. In addition to this type of rubbish, there are also a small amount of plastic rubbish and bags that guests do not keep well in the bins, she suggested that tourists visiting the Angkor site cooperate for a clean environment.
While cutting grass in front of Angkor Wat, another environmental cleaning agent, Ms. Yun Chanthy, also mentioned the case of plastic garbage that tourists do not keep well. Most of the plastic litter contains plates and straws that are thrown on the street and outside the bins, and sometimes that plastic garbage is torn by dogs all over the garden. The environmental cleaning team urges tourists who visit the Angkor site should have a good attitude to take care of the environment together to attract more tourists to visit Siem Reap.
However, the tourism agents also observe the good behavior of most tourists who have cooperated to properly dispose of their trash and also have the participation of vendors who always pack well after eating. Nowadays, there is no more selling at the grass field, mostly in the food stalls. This improves waste management at temples.
