The APSARA National Authority is making significant progress on the restoration of Bat Chum Temple, with the project now about 70% complete and expected to finish by the end of 2024.
Initiated in early June 2024, the restoration focuses on reinforcing the temple’s structure, particularly addressing severe damage on the third and fourth platforms. Engineer Ms. Doy Pichjira reported that the team has been actively removing moss, weeds, and decaying bricks while reusing high-quality old bricks alongside new materials. Steel reinforcements are being added where necessary, along with mortar to ensure the temple’s stability.
Once the upper parts of the central tower are restored, efforts will shift to enhancing the stairs, aiming to preserve the temple’s beauty and improve accessibility for visitors. This ancient structure, over 1,000 years old, is being meticulously restored to ensure its longevity and cultural significance.
