Mr. Nhok Lo, 43 years old, a resident of the North Sras Srang Village, Sangkat Nokor Thom, Siem Reap City, has been working as a sandstone temple restorer in the Angkor area for 25 years and gained a lot of skills and experience from training in this field.
Nhok Lo said that the task of restoring ancient temples is not easy because some of the temples have collapsed, leaving huge stones scattered all over the land, requiring the restorers to use their physical strength, patience, skill, experience, observation, and passion to repair and reassemble the temple. Mr. Nhok Lo added that because he was determined and loved the heritage of his ancestors, he wanted to see the ancient temple survive for a long time, so he decided to work as a restorer of ancient temples in 1998.
After working as a restorer of ancient temples for 25 years, Nhok Lo has become a rare human resource, as he has the expertise to know the stone, to look at the stones, to look at the stone sculptures on the ground, and to collect the stones to reassemble at the original location to preserve the value of the ancient temple.
Although Mr. Nhok Lo is an expert in restoring ancient temples, he knows the stone, knows how to look at the stone, and looks at the stone carvings on the ground that can be reassembled in their original location, the temple restoration work needs the participation of many other experts to carry out the restoration project successfully.
