Run Ta Ek Eco-village’s natural pineapples for sale at Angkor Botanical Garden

APSARA’s Run Ta Ek Eco-village project is harvesting pineapples planted on more than 2 hectares of land. Pineapple cultivation is using natural fertilizers and has been praised for its sweet taste. The public can taste this pineapple grown by villagers from Run Ta Ek Eco-village at Angkor Botanical Garden.

Mr. Sun Keo Pisey, Deputy Director of the Run Ta Ek Eco-village project, said that the project to plant pineapples in the village started in 2021. In the first year, we planted 6,000 pineapple trees on an area of half a hectare and got good results. So in 2022, the project has expanded the total area to 2 and a half hectares.

As for fertilizer use, Mr. Sun Keo Pisey said that it uses chicken manure and compost, and the use of natural fertilizers can provide a good result as much as chemical fertilizers and does not affect health. Now our pineapples are for sale at Angkor Botanical Garden, which was inaugurated by APSARA National Authority on 19 May 2022, and has a lot of support from the public who visit this park.

Apart from pineapple, in the Run Ta Ek Eco-village, other mixed fruits are also grown, including jackfruit, dragon fruit, sugar cane, etc. to show and encourage the villagers to grow more. As for planting pineapple, there are four families interested and a total of 1,200 seedlings have been distributed, Mr. Pisey added.

Mr. Sun Keo Pisey also mentioned the efforts of the APSARA National Authority leaders to continue developing this village, such as continuing to prepare roads and four more canals to facilitate travel and irrigation water for crops in the whole village as well.
