ICC-Angkor begins its 35th Technical Session

The 35th Technical Session of the International Committee for the Coordination of the Protection and Development of the Angkor Historic Site (ICC-Angkor) officially starts this morning, 24 March 2022, at Sofitel Angkor Phokeetra Hotel, Siem Reap, presided by H.E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, President of the Board of APSARA National Authority, H.E Dr. THONG Khon, Minister of Tourism, Co-chaired of France and Japan and Mr. Sardar Umar ALAM, UNESCO Representative to Cambodia.

Mr. Christophe GIGAUDAUT, Counselor for cooperation and cultural affairs, Embassy of France in Cambodia, and Co-Chair, expresses his pleasure to join the session in person after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 issue. Although the Covid-19 pandemic, the spirit of hard work on the preservation of the temple is not delayed; on the contrary, the conservation and sustainable development of Angkor has achieved many results.

UNESCO Representative to Cambodia, Mr. Sardar Umar ALAM, joins in the congratulations with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, as well as Adhoc experts, who work hard to make the meeting happen. On behalf of UNESCO, he also thanks to all the efforts of the APSARA National Authority for many achievements, especially in the difficult circumstances of the Covid-19 crisis, and smoothly work too. He also states that despite the challenges facing the restoration work at many World Heritage sites, at Angkor, this work continues. In addition, he stresses that cultural heritage plays a very important role in contributing to sustainable development in the social and economic sectors.

Prof. Azedine BESCHAOUCH, ICC-Angkor Science Secretary, said this is the new year for Adhoc experts to resume work on the site after a two-year absence. He added that this activity is to reconnect with the site visit, in which the experts inspect the work at various sites before the official session.

It should be noted that the ICC-Angkor will hold its 35th Technical Session and the 28th Plenary Session on 24 and 25 March 2022 at the Sofitel Angkor Phokeetra Hotel, Siem Reap.
