Neak Pean temple was built in the reign of King Jayavarman 7. This temple is located in Northern Baray just like Mebon temple in Western Baray. In the ancient time, Neak Pean was used as a hospital. Around this temple, there are five small basins, which are located in the west, the east, the south, the north and the middle. All basins have no water except the central basin, which has water for a few months in the rainy season. In 2007, researchers discovered the ancient water system and started the restoration the Northern Baray, which made those five basins have water regularly.
