On July 30th, 2017, the Research Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and the Singapore Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) jointly conducted research excavation and discovered the six-piece statue with the head, arms, legs, and earrings currently under repair by the Artistic Conservation and Maintenance Working Group called I.T.A.L.I.A of APSARA.

Mr. Chan Nora, stone restoration and conservation expert, from the Department of Conservation of Monument Outside Angkor and is a member of the Italian team at the Angkor Conservation Laboratory, said: Before receiving this sculpture from Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum, our team has conducted studies related to the history of art and illustrated decoration on the statue then using a microscope to know the damage to the surface of the interior decay and the objects attached to the statue. Additionally, the team also analyzes detail objects that are attached to the statue on the surface, stone level damage, internal temperature measurement and the moisture of the stone and the environment around the statue together with each piece of art.

The repair is divided into two sections: Cleaning Treatment and Intervention. Before cleaning, it is necessary to test the materials such as Japanese paper Compress and Algar Algar gel to check for the effect of cleaning and preventing the deterioration of the stones. Based on the cleaning results, both dust and salt in the stone holes are cleaned at the spacer to keep the stones longer as it is connected. The outer surface is cleaned only by dust and dirt that is dampened only to preserve the origin and archaeological value of the statue. Also, it shows that the statue was discovered by archaeological excavations.

Currently, about 50% of stone pieces are cleaned; experts will be using biocide to strengthen the broken and connected parts. Reconnections should be using mortar fillers and paintings on the connected places. Mr. Nora said, "We cannot set a date for completion, because this work takes a long time to be carefully studied and repaired."
