A Medicine Buddha Statue found at the ancient hospital site in Angkor

In the research project on the ancient hospitals, which were built in the reign of King Jayavarman VII, the archaeological research team of APSARA Authority in cooperation with the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies’ Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore found several pieces, including a statue known as Medicine Buddha in the ancient time.

Researchers organized a religious ceremony on the morning of August 8, 2017, before digging and lifting the Buddha statues from the excavation site. Some of statues are dragon-headed Buddha, which similar to the ones found in the 4th excavation site in the east side of the ancient hospital of King Jayavarman VII.

Mr. Im Sokrithy, Archaeologist of APSARA, said that “We identified Medicine Buddha because of an object in the palm of his hand…whose form is similar to a very small pyramid.”

ភូមិធម្មជាតិរុនតាឯក ដែលមានទីតាំងនៅឃុំរុនតាឯក ស្រុកបន្ទាយស្រី ខេត្តសៀមរាប នឹងទទួលបានការឧបត្ថម្ភអាគារសិក្សាមួយខ្នងស្មើ៥បន្ទប់ពីអង្គការ ARK BeaBeautiful Earth for Children។ ជាក់ស្តែង នៅព្រឹកថ្ងៃទី២១ ខែឧសភា ឆ្នាំ២០១៨ ពិធីបញ្ចុះបឋមសិលាបានប្រព្រឹត្តទៅក្រោមវត្តមានឯកឧត្តម ហង់ ពៅ អគ្គនាយករង តំណាងឯកឧត្តមបណ្ឌិត ស៊ុម៉ាប់ អគ្គនាយកអាជ្ញាធរជាតិអប្សរា និងលោកស្រី សាន ណារី តំណាងអង្គការ ARK Beautiful Earth for Children របស់ប្រទេសជប៉ុន។
On 18th May each year, the world celebrates the International Museum Day. The theme for celebrating International Museum Day this year is "Hyperconnected Museums New approaches, new publics". MGC Asian Textile Museum also participates in this occasion.
On 18th May, 2018, at the APSARA Authority Headquarter, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between APSARA and the capital museum of China to work together on the museum sector. The purpose of this MOU is to exchange the exhibition, research and experimentation as well as the training of museum experts.
APSARA Authority collaborates with the Asian Traditional Textile Museum offering free entrance to MGC Asian Textile Museum in order to commemorate the May 18th International Museum Day.
