On the morning of June 22, 2017, at the 28th Technical Session of ICC-Angkor, two memorandum of understanding are signed between APSARA Authority and Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, China and between APSARA Authority and Indigo Gandhi National Center for the Arts, India. The signing ceremony is presided over by H. E. Ms. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and as President of APSARA, and signed by H.E Dr. Sum Map, Director General of APSARA, Mr. Xu Yan, Deputy Director of Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage and Mrs. Vinita SRISVASTAVA, Secretary General of IGNCA.
The MOU with Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage is aimed on researching and collecting data for the preservation and restoration of Beng Mealea temple. The signing was the first step of APSARA's efforts to seek for international cooperation on the restoration of Beng Mealea temple. This MOU is made after the efforts of APSARA to seek for collaboration with international partners for the restoration of temples outside Angkor, which has had some difficulties. This means that international partners can easily agree to restore the temples in the World Heritage site because soon they receive UNESCO's attention. At this point, the inscription of Angkor in the World Heritage List is an important factor to get the international cooperation for conservation work.
By the way, the MOU with Indigo Gandhi National Center for the Arts is intended to collect data, documents and video files to store in the system. This project is used to keep for conservation work in the future. For example, this system can help next generations to know about the origin and development parts of the temples over the next 10 or 20 years. So this collective data system is a core and a masterpiece the next generations to study before deciding to make a fix.
